Square Enix has announced that a demo for Octopath Traveler II is now available on consoles, two weeks prior to its launch on February 24th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. The announcement initially came by way of the February 2023 Nintendo Direct, with a subsequent launch trailer released via the official Square Enix YouTube channel. Check it out in its bombastic glory below!

The demo will give players the opportunity to play three consecutive hours of Octopath Traveler II as any of the eight protagonists present in the game, from its beginning. Progress made in the demo will transfer to the full game upon its release.

Octopath Traveler II threads a multi-layered story between eight individuals traveling across the continent of Solistia: Hikari (Warrior), Castti (Apothecary), Agnea (Dancer), Throné (Thief), Osvald (Scholar), Partitio (Merchant), Temenos (Cleric), and Ochette (Hunter). Each of these individuals possesses unique abilities with which to interact with the world around them. Whether that means bargaining for better prices, recruiting allies to fight with you in turn-based battle, or stealing their wares through subterfuge, day or night within the game changes their function and efficiency, giving players choices in how to approach and tailor their story. It acts as a sequel to Octopath Traveler and is the next entry replete in the 2D-HD art style that Square Enix has deployed to reasonable success in recent years, alongside Triangle Strategy and the LIVE A LIVE remake.

As it stands, Octopath Traveler II looks to be a follow-up infused with what made its predecessor unique, with a strong ensemble cast supporting its foundation. If you’re curious about what we think of Octopath Traveler II, feel free to check out our timely preview, penned by Zach Wilkerson!
