Check Out This Charming Animated Trailer for Final Fantasy XIV

File this under ‘cute’. Final Fantasy XIV‘s Korean publisher, Actoz Soft, has released a gorgeous anime-style trailer for the game that’s so lush, so vivid, and so appropriately diverse in its themes and content that it’s even starting to make waves internationally.

The trailer, which clocks in just shy of a brisk two minutes, runs the content gamut from slashing to crafting, gathering to spellcasting, to just plain hanging out with friends at a Free Company estate. I’m especially fond of the sequence which illustrates the retrieval of a rare gem, which is then used by a talented crafter in the creation of an epic blade… which is soon wielded in live combat by a dashing warrior-type fellow. It tells a story – a story that players can be a part of every step of the way.

Oh, and there are chocobos, of course. And moogles. And Triple Triad. And… basically, this is just marvelous. Bravo, Actoz Soft. Square Enix’s epic CG trailers loudly broadcast the narrative scope and stakes behind Final Fantasy XIV, but it’s nice to see something more down-to-earth for a change. Er, Eorzea.

Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The most recent expansion, Endwalker, brilliantly wrapped a decade-long core storyline – but don’t take my word for it. Read our wonderful Caitlin Argyros’ review, and learn why she went and gave the thing a spectacular 98.
