Square Enix has released a new trailer for their upcoming mobile game Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis at Summer Game Fest 2023. The trailer showcases snippets of Sephiroth alongside climactic events within the Final Fantasy VII timeline, rendered in its usual bombastic style. Check out the trailer below!

Pre-registrations for Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis are now available via the official website. Players in both the U.S. and Canada who pre-register on Android devices will have a chance to participate in an upcoming closed beta slated for July 6th to 13th (PST).

In an official blog post, Square Enix has outlined that Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will act as an episodic single-player experience aimed at covering key aspects of the expansive Final Fantasy VII timeline and mythos while anchored in the original 1997 release and beyond. Additionally, the game will also include exclusive side stories written by Final Fantasy VII Remake scenario writer Kazushige Nojima on both the origins of the paramilitary organization SOLDIER and the adventures of a young, short-haired Sephiroth.

It seems that Square Enix is full steam ahead on reviving Final Fantasy VII in the modern gaming space, focusing on creating a clear recontextualization of the game’s legacy across multiple platforms, remasters, and remakes. Isn’t it fascinating? I’m curious as to how Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will expand on that legacy upon its release. I imagine I’m not the only one who feels that way across new and old fans of the franchise.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will launch as a free-to-play title on both iOS and Android devices. While no word on a release date has been announced, you can be sure we here at RPGFan will report that news once it becomes known!
