Castlevania: Nocturne | Official Teaser Trailer | Netflix

Castlevania: Nocturne acts as a spin-off to the original Netflix Castlevania animated series, which concluded its four-season arc in 2021. It is set in 1792 with the brutal peaks of the French Revolution as its core backdrop. Richter Belmont takes centre stage as the series’ protagonist, contending against fangs, fury, and existential threats across France itself. For greater detail on its story, check out an official synopsis sourced from Netflix:

New series focusing on Richter Belmont origin story feat. vampires in the French Revolution.

The gory and gothic adventures of the Castlevania franchise continue with an exciting new setting and their highest stakes yet. A gripping story of love and loss, Nocturne marks an evolution to the original fan-favorite Castlevania Netflix Series. Featuring a never before seen origin story of Richter Belmont (gaming icon, and one of the Franchise’s most beloved characters).

The first season of Castlevania: Nocturne is animated by Powerhouse Animation with Project 51 Productions handling production duties. Clive Bradley (Trapped, That Summer Day) and Kevin Kolde (Castlevania, Adventure Time) serve as showrunner and producer respectively. The first season will comprise eight episodes upon its arrival, each with a runtime of 25 minutes or less.

As it stands, it is unclear as to whether Castlevania: Nocturne will retell the stories that Richter Belmont is famous for heading, such as Rondo of Blood or Symphony of the Night. Irrespective of that, it seems intent on continuing the legacy of its previous series, acting as both a beautiful and action-packed time for fans and animation aficionados alike. As someone who enjoyed Castlevania over the course of its airing, I’m genuinely curious to see what Richter brings to the Belmont legacy on the big screen next month! Whips, undead, and blood most definitely, methinks!
