Hopetown developer Longdue recently held its first Q&A, and some key members took part to answer various queries from Kickstarter backers.
The panel included Martin Luiga and Piotr Sobolewski (alumni of Disco Elysium developer ZA/UM), as well as Grant Roberts, who held leadership roles on the writing teams of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Destiny 2. They went into the creative process behind Hopetown, how it differs from Disco Elysium, game psychology, and more esoteric topics like the mysteries of pigeons. Check it out below.
The Kickstarter campaign for the game, marketed as a psychological, “story-rich isometric CRPG”, is still underway, with seven days to go at the time of writing. We first learned about Hopetown in 2024, when it was announced on the fifth anniversary of its spiritual predecessor Disco Elysium.
Hopetown Overview
Hopetown is a story-rich isometric CRPG with deep, branching conversations, sharply written characters, and a world that reacts in unpredictable ways.
As a former journalist, you’ll investigate a town above, the world below, and the depths of your own psyche — with the voices in your head as a guide.
Hopetown is inspired by narrative-first RPGs such as Disco Elysium and Kentucky Route Zero, and is being built by some of the key talent behind these games, such as Martin Luiga – founder of the ZA/UM Cultural Movement and writer of several characters on Disco Elysium, Lenval Brown – the narrator of Disco Elysium, Piotr Sobolewski – oversaw all technical development on Disco Elysium as CEO of the Knights of U, Ben Babbitt – one of the trio of game developers that created Kentucky Route Zero, and Paweł Blaszczak, music composer on the original soundtracks of The Witcher & The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Hopetown is planned to launch for PC. If you’d like some background into the developers, you can check out our reviews of Disco Elysium and its Final Cut version.
