Two years after its initial announcement, Project Bloom has resurfaced with an official title: Beast of Reincarnation. The action RPG is set for release in 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (day one on Game Pass), and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. The publisher is Fictions, formerly known as Private Division (No Rest for the Wicked).
The trailer at Xbox Showcase surprised everyone as it seemed like a new IP from Game Freak. Most known for Pokémon, the studio hasn’t attempted a new IP in years; their last was Little Town Hero in 2019. Beast of Reincarnation gives off a totally different vibe from Game’s Freak signature series, which is typically cartoony and colorful, instead having a much more realistic and mature aesthetic.
Check out the trailer below to see action-packed combat that feels closer to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice or Black Myth: Wukong than anything we’ve seen before from Game Freak.
In post-apocalyptic Japan, a land ruined by corruption and crawling with monstrous beasts, humanity’s last hope may rest with Emma—an outcast cursed as a Blighted One—and Koo, her loyal canine companion. Survive a journey across an ominous, ever-changing world where dangerous forests can erupt in the wasteland. As Emma and Koo push deeper into the unknown, their bond strengthens—and with it, strange powers bloom. Explore what it means to be human in Beast of Reincarnation, an expansive one-person, one-dog action RPG built around demanding, technical combat. What awaits at journey’s end?
Directed by Kota Furushima, Beast of Reincarnation allows players to step into the role of Emma the Sealer as they journey through post-apocalyptic Japan to save humanity from extinction. Beast of Reincarnation marks another exciting title under Fictions, a new game publisher founded by a collection of game developers and craft experts who support and champion games as well as the creative minds behind them.
It’s also worth noting the unusual story behind the game’s new publisher: Fictions. Originally set to be published by Private Division, the project was caught in the turmoil of layoffs and restructuring when PD was nearly shut down. Out of that chaos emerged Fictions — not staffed by former PD members, but rather by several key figures who left Annapurna last year. It’s a surprising turn of events, but great to see those talents land on their feet and help bring Beast of Reincarnation to life.
“It’s incredible to be working with Game Director Furushima-san and the renowned development team at Game Freak. We greatly value their continued collaboration and trust,” said Mika Kurasawa, Executive Producer, Fictions. “We are so excited to show players a glimpse into the stunning world and intense combat of Beast of Reincarnation.”
