RPGs Coming This Week, 7/20/25

In this edition of RPGs Coming This Week, a dark and gritty Souls-like debuts alongside a trio of considerably more hospitable adventure games. As an enjoyer of brutal challenges and gentle experiences alike, I feel like I’m being attacked on both fronts. I’m begging someone who’s good at the economy to help me budget this.

and Roger – July 24th (Switch, Windows)

This upcoming interactive fiction game looks like it might pull on the ol’ heartstrings. Even just the premise of and Roger is interesting enough. It’s told from the perspective of a little girl who runs away from home after she sees a strange man at home in place of her father. The stranger seems to know her, I think, so it’s probably not creepy or anything. I have my suspicions as to what this is really about, but I’m mostly just excited to see where it goes and how it gets there.

The illustration and animation work, as you can watch in the trailer above, is absolutely charming and pretty. It’s a short story — said to be an hour’s worth of playtime — so it’s barely a commitment. And it’s coming out on Switch, which remains the perfect platform for easygoing fare like this. If you like what you see of and Roger, you should definitely check out this short interview with the creator for more insight.

Arcana Famiglia Rinato – July 24th (Switch, Windows)

Arcana Famiglia Rinato is an otome title set on a small island protected by the mafia-esque organization Arcana Famiglia, whose members wield an ability called Arcana. Protagonist Felicita is a rookie of the group, as well as the only daughter of Arcana Famiglia’s boss. Her father soon announces a special tournament called the Arcana Duello, and whoever wins the tournament not only becomes the new family head but also gets to marry Felicita! Understandably, she isn’t thrilled with this proclamation and decides to compete in the tournament herself to decide her own fate.

Since the game’s described as something of a cross between an otome game and a shonen manga, I’m naturally quite curious as a fan of both those things and you don’t often see them blended together. Arcana Famiglio Rinato uses a clever comic style to present its story, and Felicita can even read the minds of those around her to gain the upper hand in the various scenarios awaiting her. Playing Arcana Famiglio Rinato when it releases later this week on the Nintendo Switch might just prove to be one offer otome fans can’t refuse!

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – July 24th (PS5, XSX, Windows)

First of all, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an absolute stunner. Chinese studios have been popping off for a while now, and Leenzee, the Chengdu-based developer of Wuchang, is no exception. Maybe it’s partly because I haven’t played a truly “next-gen” experience in a while, but I’m awed by this game’s visual artistry and polish.

I also really dig this game’s premise. You play as the eponymous hero, a pirate warrior who wakes up with amnesia and, worse, a disease that eventually turns one into a monster. Well, it’s not all bad, because Wuchang can use her condition to fend off all manner of horrors and claw your way around a forbidding world, set at the tail end of the Ming Dynasty. The game is a Souls-like, so that means demanding combat, strategy-heavy character building, and a lot of dying, probably. But that’s exactly what we’re here for, right?

No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files – July 25th (Switch 2, Switch, Windows)

No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files is not a sequel to 2023’s AI: The Somnium Files: nirvanA Initiative. It’s a spinoff that recasts the spotlight on Kaname Date, the degenerate detective with AI for an eye. His mission this time is to again save Iris Sagan, one of the series’ more prominent characters, from… aliens? As someone who has experienced the craziness of the the prior entries, I’m a little reticent to take that last detail at face value. We shall see, I suppose.

Our own Sean Cabot’s already beaten No Sleep For Kaname Date, and he has plenty of thoughts, takeaways, and more on this latest Spike Chunsoft joint. I think if you enjoyed the banter of Date, Aiba, Mizuki, and company, in the earlier games, you’ll absolutely get more of that here.

Also Coming This Week

Fate: Reawakened – July 22nd (iOS, Android)

Fate: Reawakened arrives on mobile platforms this week. After launching on PC and consoles back on March 12th, the collection of four classic Fate RPGs is coming to iOS and Android. Fate is one of the classic pillars of the loot-driven, dungeon-delving subgenre of action RPGs, and is a great alternative to games like Diablo 4. Players can enjoy Fate without the modern annoyances of some ARPGs such as season passes.

Wild Hearts S – July 25th (Switch 2)

After launching back in 2023, Omega Force is bringing an updated version of its monster hunting action title to the Switch 2 in the form of Wild Hearts S. The obvious comparison is Monster Hunter; while Capcom’s series still reigns supreme in the genre, Wild Hearts S brings plenty to the table. The game is visually stunning, and the Switch 2 will provide a platform to test those visuals in handheld form.
