Fable Brings Villainy & Heroism on February 23rd, 2027 for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5 and PC

Xbox Game Studios and developer Playground Games have announced that the long-awaited evolution of the Fable franchise will release on February 23rd, 2027, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. The information came as part of the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, alongside a new in-engine trailer introducing Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh, who acts as the game’s villain, portrayed by actress Hayley Atwell (Mission Impossible, Marvel Cinematic Universe). Check it out below!

Fable Xbox Games Showcase 2026 Trailer

As seen above, Isabel narrates to the camera in a mockumentary-style one-sided speech, detailing her motivation, mired in grief, to become the only Hero needed in Albion to ensure its order and prosperity. Between her words, we see snapshots of the story of Fable juxtaposed against encounters with some of the series’ longstanding foes, such as Hobbes, Balverines, and riddle-dealing Demon Doors. It ends with a stinger revealing the sinister involvement of Jack of Blades, the villain of the first Fable game.

Fable will put players in the role of the Hero of Briar Hill, a customisable protagonist played by either Lily Nichol (Lockwood & Co.) or Ukweli Roach (Horizon Forbidden West), thrust into the wider world of Albion by fate. In that journey across Albion, they will shape the world and its inhabitants through a wide array of choices that echo back as consequences in a free-form milleau reminiscent of the original games. For a deeper look, check out an official synopsis below:

Become the Hero you want to be in an immersive open-world action-RPG where each choice shapes your journey, reputation is everything, and fairytale endings are never guaranteed.

A New Beginning For A Legendary Franchise

Fable returns in a stunning reboot of a beloved franchise. As the first Hero in a generation, explore a living Albion filled with peculiar characters, dark humour, and chickens… lots of chickens. This isn’t just nostalgia — it’s a new beginning set in a beautifully vibrant open world.

Be The Hero You Want To Be

Customize your Hero’s appearance and wield powerful weapons as you weave melee, ranged, and magical combat. Take on bandits, beasts, and creatures — including brand-new enemies and fan-favorites like Hobbes, Balverines, and Trolls. Your power grows right alongside your reputation.

Build An Extraordinary Life

Beyond all the combat lies a living world where you can carve your own identity. Get filthy rich as a landlord or blacksmith, romance a villager (or three), have a bunch of kids, and watch as your reputation precedes you. Being a Hero is a bit like being a celebrity… if celebrities carried swords and occasionally battled giant fire-breathing chickens.

Your Choices Change The World

In Albion, a Hero’s reputation is everything. Your noble deeds and questionable decisions affect your relationship with each villager and can even shape the world around you. Whose opinion matters most? The choice is yours… and so are the consequences. It’s up to you to decide what it means to be a Hero.

Originally announced in 2020, it has been a long road of development for this next iteration of Fable, but by all accounts, it’s shaping up to be an epic saga replete with star power and choice buoyed in legacy. As a longtime fan of the franchise, I’m deeply curious to see if Playground Games’ efforts will pay off come early next year. At the very least, to see a Hero once again wear a chicken suit while adventuring, there’s nothing fowl about that!
