Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok at Summer Game Fest 2026: Building on an Engaging Action RPG

Action RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink is about to get even bigger with its Endless Ragnarok expansion! Thanks to the team at Cygames, I was able to hear from Creative Director Tetsuya Fukuhara and Director Sanshiro Hidaka about the new features of the expansion, their vision for the title, and more. I then got to play some of the upcoming content myself, including Chaos level missions, experimenting with the new playable characters, and diving into a new roguelike mode called The Conflux. Let’s get to it!

My session began with a presentation from the directors, and their excitement for Endless Ragnarok shone through. They described how the idea for the expansion wasn’t in their original plans for the game, but that due to fan demand they wanted to find a way to deliver a substantial content update for players. Thus, Endless Ragnarok was born!

Unlocked after completing a certain endgame quest, the expansion will include new story content, four new playable characters, a staggering amount of summons (ranging from titanic monsters you would expect to random villagers you would not), Chaos level missions, the roguelike mode, and Master Levels for every playable character, adding some new Master Traits to unlock and breathing new life into existing content while doing so. All in all, the expansion is estimated to double the base game’s playtime.

After this presentation, I went hands-on with the expansion content. I opted to play as the new character Eustace, an agile gun-wielder with fun (and flashy!) lightning attacks. His abilities felt intuitive and quick-paced, making him a great choice for this demo. Not to mention how I’m a sucker for an edgy cool party member.

During the demo, I took on a variety of Chaos level missions, the new difficulty tier coming with Endless Ragnarok. These were exciting battles that gave me a great opportunity to see summons in action. Controlling summons was a blast, as was the chaos that ensued from their bombastic attacks! Rolling against enemies and casting giant AoEs made for some thrilling combat.

After completing a few Chaos missions, I moved onto The Conflux. This game mode offers single-player roguelike gameplay, in which I navigated procedurally generated challenge rooms to progress. These challenge rooms varied in objective.

The types I encountered included combat-based rooms where I had to clear waves of enemies, movement-based rooms where I had to engage in some light platforming to collect all items within a time limit, boss rooms with a more challenging fight in store, and recovery rooms. When completing a room, I got to decide the next room’s challenge type from three options (unless I had reached a boss room, in which case I had to face the boss next).

I had a great time exploring The Conflux! The rooms presented bite-sized bursts of gameplay that were engaging, and I liked the variety of challenges on display here. I’m curious to see how the difficulty ramps up in later sections of the game mode, as this introductory segment felt manageable for me as someone who hadn’t played Granblue Fantasy before this. Once I finished this demo section, there was a bit of a story tease that also has me intrigued about later parts of this mode.

This hands-on session converted me into a Granblue Fantasy: Relink player and has me eagerly anticipating Endless Ragnarok, so I would say it was a success! Don’t just take my word on it for the base game though — check out Des Miller’s Granblue Fantasy: Relink review for more glowing praise. My appreciation again to Cygames, Tetsuya Fukuhara, and Sanshiro Hidaka for this opportunity.
