Nintendo and developer Monolith Soft have released a new overview trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. It showcases what players can expect from this new edition, ranging from substantial performance upgrades to exclusive new content. Check it out below!

As seen above, Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition‘s performance will be enhanced, both in the visual motion and detailing of its gameplay and cutscenes. The title will run at 60 frames per second with 4K resolution in TV Mode and 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution in Handheld mode.
Monolith Soft has also confirmed that heroines Pyra and Mythra will receive new outfits beyond their initial designs that, if chosen, will carry across the entire game.
Beyond cosmetics, a new gameplay mode known as Merc Assault will be available to play. Players will choose six Blades (persistent in-game summons) to form a squad to fight against enemies in real-time wave-based stages. Players will be able to control and switch between the Blades freely, chaining special abilities to each Blade to achieve victory.
MOMO from the Xenosaga trilogy has been added as a rare Blade, joining her Xenosaga companion KOS-MOS. As a Blade, players will be able to switch between light and dark modes in combat, utilising unique damage types in each.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 puts players in the role of scavenger Rex who ekes out a living in Alrest, a world of clouds where its inhabitants live on and inside colossal beasts known as Titans. He, by luck, meets Pyra, a summonable being known as a Blade, which are rare across Alrest. In their meeting, they forge a connection, where Rex promises to take Pyra to a fabled paradise known as Elysium. On that journey, players will explore the Titans across a wide variety of biologically infused environments, engaging in real-time battles against a myriad of opponents, large and small, and collecting an array of unique Blades.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is available now on the Nintendo eShop as a complete version or via an upgrade pack path for owners of the original release. It will also release as a physical version on October 1st.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch. It was followed by Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country, a standalone expansion released in 2018. It seems that Nintendo and Monolith Soft are emphatic on bringing the best versions of the Xenoblade series to players, dovetailing with the future of the franchise. Personally, I think players could do much, much worse in experiencing what this modernised chapter in a seminal JRPG saga contains, Titans and all.
