Spike Chunsoft and developer Gemdrops have announced that Danganronpa 2×2 will launch on January 14th, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The information came during the latest Nintendo Direct, with a new trailer bringing sun, surf, and a brief look at its new Slayhem Mode. Check it out below!
Danganronpa 2×2 Release Date Trailer
Danganronpa 2×2 is a full-scale retelling of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, a visual novel originally released on PlayStation Portable in 2012. It focuses on fifteen students, the “Ultimates,” from Hope’s Peak Academy after a field trip to Jabberwocky Island mutates into a vicious Killing Game led by animatronic bear Monokuma, where they must fight for survival with their wits, strength, and cunning. Players take on the perspective of amnesiac Hajime Hinata, who must find a way to survive in the Killing Game as he weaves through an intricate web of danger, judgement, and murder.
Danganronpa 2×2 differs from the original release by including a full reimagining of the above-described story and a new “Slayhem Mode.” It recontextualises the scenario of the Killing Game with the same cast and setting, but brings an entirely new chain of murders to solve with the involvement of a new mystery student. Investigate murders by gathering testimonies and evidence, then identify the “Blackened” during the Class Trial. Debate with your classmates in high-speed detective action as you shoot through contradictions using Truth Bullets. Trials feature voice acting by a celebrated cast.
Each case is divided into three primary parts:
■ Daily Life
Explore Jabberwock Island freely and interact with the Ultimate Students. When a murder occurs and a body is discovered, the game transitions into the Investigation phase.
■ Investigation
Examine crime scenes, interview other students, and collect the evidence needed to crack the case. The clues you find become Truth Bullets used to refute contradictory statements. Once all evidence is gathered, the Class Trial begins.
■ Class Trial
Use the evidence you’ve collected to expose the “Blackened”. Students debate the case from various angles, and their statements flow across the screen in real time. Fire the appropriate Truth Bullets to break through contradictions and advance the debate. Unravel the case’s truth in nonstop, high-speed deduction and argumentation!

As someone who completely missed this series when it originally released, it looks delightfully zany in the most twisted of ways. Danganronpa 2×2 gives both me and fans old and new a reason to see what’s hinky about Jabberwocky Island, Monokuma, and more early next year!
