Origins Game Fair 2019

Origins Game Fair 2019

With Origins Game Fair 2019 complete, another Origins passes, this one demonstrating growth not just in the size of the venue and the number of attendees, but in how the event accommodates others. I attended the show as a father this year, and I came to realize how much Origins tries to make parents feel welcome. Clear policies about sexual harassment, unrestrained support for LGBTQ individuals, and accessible quiet rooms complemented the vibe of acceptance and tolerance for all participants.

While this worthwhile and deserved praise is wonderful in its own right, let us not forget why we’re here in the first place: games! Every year, I tend to notice some trajectory in the game design scene, whether it’s single-playthrough, narrative-driven games or a surge in two-player games. This year, the community has taken notice of a new kind of card game, and there has also been a rise in asymmetric games. Read on for my take on all that is good at Origins Game Fair 2019.
