RPGFan Music of the Year 2020

Buried Stars OST

Buried Stars is an engaging visual novel with a fantastically tense atmosphere, and its music certainly helped to convey the claustrophobic sense of stress and unease that the plot was going for. I adored the vocal theme “Be Honest,” but the instrumental tracks used throughout the title were also quite excellent and mood-inducing, which greatly helped to add to the narrative ambiance.

Fae Tactics OST

I had conflicting opinions about Fae Tactics overall due to its punishing difficulty and painful glitches, but the one thing I can readily say about the game’s soundtrack is that it was easily one of the musical highlights of my gaming experiences this year. Many tracks reminded me quite a bit of music from the Wild ARMs series in particular, high praise in and of itself! The overall game soundtrack wonderfully took you into the story scenes and nerve-wracking battles. There wasn’t a musical piece that didn’t have a sense of charm or emotion to it. Sam English did an incredible job composing a game OST I can’t help but listen to fondly even well after having finished my playthrough.

Genshin Impact OSTs

There are actually three OSTs that have been released for Genshin Impact so far, and all of them contain absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking tracks. The differing regions of the game world are beautifully captured in the scope of its soundtrack, and I love the sense of wonder and feeling each and every piece conveys. The instrumentation is absolutely lovely. Truthfully, I often lost myself simply listening to the game’s music while exploring the various open areas that awaited me.
