Abarenbou Princess Theme of Rouge: Rouge Special Selection

Review by · September 23, 2007

Silly and short. That’s a good way to describe this one.

The OST for Abarenbou Princess, the Sound Selection, was 71 minutes of pretty solid early-PS2 VGM. This album, in contrast, is a 25 minute arranged album, and the arrangements are generally only one step above what can be heard on the OST.

Yes, it seems the “Rouge Special Selection” isn’t all that special. It’s fun in that silly-song kind of way, and there are maybe two or three songs that demonstrate some musical merit. The rest, not so much.

The value of this album, and the Abarenbou Princess OST, plummeted in the last few years. People looking to buy a used copy of this album can probably find a good deal, and likely alongside its OST counterpart. It’s a nice addition, but not at all necessary, even for fans of these quirky, obscure titles.
