Cocona ~Two Feelings, Two Songs~ Ar tonelico hymmnos musical

Review by · December 12, 2010

It’s another in the “Hymmnos Musical” series. Mostly a drama, with some vocal performance tracks strewn throughout. This one focuses on Cocona, a key character who appears as a young girl in AT2 and shows up at another continent, and now “of age,” in AT3.

The background music, and the newly added vocal tracks, are excellent. But having to hunt them down among very emotional, exasperated Japanese girl-talk is no fun. Team Entertainment recently announced they’d be taking the vocal tracks from the previous “Hymmnos Musical” albums and packaging them into one disc of just music. If we’re lucky we’ll even get extended editions of those tracks. Unfortunately, that disc won’t include the music on this Hymmnos Musical disc. It’s truly, truly unfortunate, because these are the best songs I’ve heard on the three Musical discs.

If you understand Japanese and you like the Ar tonelico franchise, this is a great disc to have. If you’re just in it for the music, well… it’s a hard sell. Importers beware.
