Fable Original Soundtrack

Fable was supposed to be an epic experience, one that allowed you to be whoever or do whatever you wanted. Though it was entertaining, the game was not the groundbreaking experience that it aspired to be. After listening to the Fable Original Soundtrack, I can tell you that its soundtrack doesn’t break any barriers either. In fact, though it was fine background noise while playing the game, Fable’s music is rather weak solo.

Fable’s soundtrack doesn’t start off too badly, however. The Fable theme, composed by Danny Elfman, is a good, solid entry to the CD. My question is why it is only used in the game’s intro. However, my favorite track is the second on the disc, Oakvale. This whimsical tune has a strong melody, which most of the other songs lack. After these two, the CD goes quickly downhill, though Bowerstone is not bad, though it sounds a lot like Oakvale, only it uses plucked strings to give it a nice staccato feel. The last two tracks on this CD, the longest ones, are absolutely pointless. Guild is basically a series of ten second chants each separated by ten seconds of silence. It’s basically 5 minutes and 29 seconds of pure repetitiveness. Then Fresco Dome is the exact same thing, except it uses female voices and thankfully is shorter, if only by 31 seconds.

If there was any doubt, let me clearly state that my recommendation is not to buy this CD. The music is just not interesting enough to stand by itself. If you really want to listen to this soundtrack, it would be a lot more enjoyable to go play the game instead.
