Fight! Hanjuku Hero / Without Yolk…

Review by · October 28, 2004

Note: The original terminology for this game is “Hanjuku Eiyuu” which translates to “Half-Boiled Hero.” Somehow the half-translated name stuck, so much so that you can even hear “Hanjuku Hero!” sung in this opening theme.

Okay, listen up: ISAO SASAKI! This guy is insane. The vocalist for the “Hanjuku Hero Vs. 3D” theme song fits the spirit of the game all too well. Overly-serious to the point of comedy, you can’t help but laugh at how silly this song is, and at the same time, you can’t stop from bouncing along to the beat of this opening song. “Fight! Hanjuku Hero” is one of the catchiest songs known to mankind. It’s just good. The children’s choir that joins Sasaki at various parts in the song is probably what really drives me over the end.

And I mean…look at the cover to this CD. Doesn’t that make you laugh? Well, it makes me laugh anyway. You know it’s funny.

“Without Yolk…” is much more boring for the English listener, though I’m sure the lyrics are at least somewhat witty, with egg-related puns here and there. I don’t personally like this song as much, though I still get a kick out of Isao Sasaki’s voice. The man is simply hilarious.

While I haven’t spent time listening to it, I’ve heard that the Hanjuku Hero Vs. 3D OST is really no good at all. So, if that’s the case, at least this vocal single is worth your attention. I would recommend it to anyone looking to cheer up with a little bit of zany Japanese humor. I just love it!
