GO!!: Super Robot Taisen IMPACT Theme Song

Review by · January 17, 2007

Since JAM Project began to sing for Banpresto’s Super Robot Wars series, they have done opening and ending songs for the later SRW games (excluding GameCube and all the handheld ones). This single is from 2002’s SRW Impact (A remake of 3 WonderSwan games into one). It is their second SRW single as well. Though I like it, it’s not their best work.

“GO!!” is one of JAM Project’s grittier songs. The melody and intensity of the vocals gave it a punk style. What I mainly liked about the song is the engaging chorus. It felt like the song really got interesting once they started the “Go! Go! Go!…” chant, and from there it’s a neat listen.

To me, their ending songs are much more of a hit or miss, and “DEPARTURE” is more of a miss. By all means, it is not a bad song at all and still beats their Alpha 2 ending (Forever & Ever), but it’s just nothing really special. The song is very suitable as a concert-style song with its pleasant melody and vocals. It is more of a happy song than “GO!!”, and while interesting, “The Earth’s Promise” (MX) and “Brother in Faith” (Alpha 3) far surpass it.

It’s JAM Project: so that alone makes it worthwhile to listen. “GO!!” is a solid opening (thanks to the chorus) and “DEPARTURE” is a happy-go-lucky ending, but they have done much better work in their other singles. Give it a listen anyhow.
