Kaori Oda’s single, “Brilliant World,” was released a couple of months ago. The song was used as an opening title in the DS game, Luminous Arc. With the single comes her other song, “Wish On,” and karaoke versions of both of them like in majority of singles. Overall, this has been one of the most enjoyable singles I listen to outside of anything JAM Project.
Upon hearing the first few seconds of “Brilliant World” I got immediately hooked. While it has elements that make it feel a little bit J-pop, but it is quite untypical. For starters, the vocals are lower toned then a lot of the high pitched vocalists I hear from a lot of J-Pop songs, but I thought Oda’s vocals are great. The melody is quite engaging, having the upbeat energy of most J-Pop songs, but utilized violins to complement the upbeat melody. That gave the song more sophistication, and with her vocals, it made the song work out so well. I loved it.
Her next song, “Wish on,” was also enjoyable. Oda uses the same vocal style, complemented with a gentler, dreamy melody. The song has a simplistic melody and ordinary, but it still has merit. I still liked the vocals and I also enjoyed the guitar bits that occur occasionally. It may not be groundbreaking and I didn’t enjoy it as much as “Brilliant World,” I did find it to be a good song.
Both songs are winners in their own right, so it is pretty obvious of what I thought of this little gem: I definitely recommended this single. Get it and enjoy.
