Meshimase Roman Sabou Original Drama & Soundtrack

Review by · October 31, 2007

Note: “Meshimase Roman Sabou” can be translated “Drink (to the) Romantic Coffee Shop,” as in a toast, or some other honorific context.

Vingt-et-un is all about making love adventures for girls (and gay men). Nothing like finding the perfect guy in a dating sim. And apparently, finding the right guy takes place in a coffee shop. It also involves listening to some decent VGM.

This album marks a major improvement over the previous Vingt-et-un affair, Kimagure Strawberry Cafe. The same styles are here–jazz, ambient–along with some traditional East Asian influence (strings, winds, that sort of thing). All of the instrumentals are pretty good.

The drama is decent (if you know Japanese). The vocals (tracks 25 and 26) are, in my opinion, annoying. The male vocalist is a little too raw, not very talented. This one disc contains over 80 minutes worth of audio. That is another plus.

Among the three albums Team Entertainment has published for Vingt-et-un, this one is easily my favorite. A later album, Ururun Quest, was okay, and Kimagure Strawberry Cafe was fairly poor. Take these statements, along with the samples, for what they’re worth; then consider a purchase.
