misono – Lovely Cat’s Eye

Review by · December 30, 2007

With the release of Namco’s Tales of the Tempest for the DS, Namco used misono’s single, “Lovely Cat’s Eye,” as an “image” song associated with the game and commercials for it. The single was released five days after the game’s release. With the single, another of her works, “Tomorrow” is also included.

I have mixed feelings about “Lovely Cat’s Eye.” The melody is interesting in some spots, but it can get a bit too edgy for my tastes. Misono is good, but her vocals in the song are nothing special and in the moments where her pitch goes higher, the execution felt pretty weak. I enjoyed the song, but I do not find it too memorable. It does have some interesting touches to spice up the song such as the random meow’s occurring throughout the song.

“Tomorrow” is pretty generic, but I personally enjoyed it more. The melody is upbeat, but a bit too plain and it sounds too similar to many other J-Pop ballads. Misono did a better job on the vocals than in “Lovely Cat’s Eye” and she certainly has talent, but this song does not give me the best impression of her.

These songs were not bad at all, but I heard much better J-Pop throughout the years. Listen to the samples and perhaps they may click with you more than with me. If you are a fan of misono’s work then great, more misono goodness. If not, you’re well off spending money on better singles.
