To date, no full OST has been announced for Monster Kingdom Jewel Summoner. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. This PSP RPG has an all-star cast of eleven composers, of which only two appear on this tiny promotional album.
The tiny taste of the goodness to come is almost too tantalizing. With music from Shinji Hosoe and Hitoshi Sakimoto, these three tracks pack quite a punch in only five minutes. After Sakimoto’s subpar performance on the Final Fantasy XII OST, it’s good to see him doing his best to write incredible music in the style that he forged with the Ogre Battle series and Final Fantasy Tactics.
Hosoe’s trademark techno-pop style is more evident on the third track than the first, but both tell of Hosoe’s attention to detail. Hosoe-san isn’t playing around: this music is serious business.
At this point in time, I couldn’t be more angry that a full soundtrack hasn’t been printed. Perhaps when the game is reincarnated on the PlayStation 3, we’ll see a full soundtrack release. Until then, this CD (that comes inside a ten-page booklet) is about all we have. This RPG is the reason to get a PSP, and this soundtrack will re-ignite many people’s love of VGM again. Not this dinky promo, the real thing (which I hope will be many many discs). Until then, enjoy these samples.
