Odyssey / Yuuka Nanri

Review by · May 17, 2009

Yuuka Nanri provides the opening theme “Odyssey” for Dengeki Gakuen RPG: Cross of Venus, a new crossover RPG (featuring manga characters) for the Nintendo DS. “Odyssey” is a catchy, synth-pop song, and Nanri’s smooth and soft voice, typical as it may sound, fits the instrumentation well. That said, I’m actually more intrigued by the single’s B-Side, “Dear,” a ballad that features Nanri using a vocal tone that seems more natural to her. She sounds slightly more nasal, but she also gives a more emotional performance on the song. I also prefer the melody to “Dear” over “Odyssey.”

The opening theme only appears as an under-two-minute “game size” version on the OST, so if you want to experience the full song, this is the single you want. You also get a really good B-side out of the deal.
