Record of Lodoss War

Review by · January 30, 2008

A variety of games have been made in relation to the classic “Lodoss” anime. One noteworthy title was a Super Famicom RPG, simply entitled “Record of Lodoss War” (no fancy subtitles). This is the soundtrack for said RPG.

A pair of Sakai’s put together the music for this particular RPG. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stand out in the least. The music is not modeled after the classic anime tunes. The songs are the epitome of generic RPG music. Even the names of the songs give away how generic they are. “Town 1,” “Dungeon 2,” you get the idea. Simple, short melodies dominate this soundtrack. Note also the disc length, just under 40 minutes for 30 tracks. Not much of an OST, this one.

Some of the songs stood out for their beauty, but again, they are not memorable. “Event Sad #1” is my favorite track on the disc: beautiful piano stuff.

Only extreme Lodoss fans would hunt this OST down; well, them or people who like to find really obscure music (that’d be me). The soundtrack is nothing special, but it features good melodies for an SNES RPG.
