Spectral Force -Lovely Wickedness- Original Soundtrack

Review by · April 29, 2007

Toru Kobayashi did much of the early musical work for Idea Factory. He has yet to impress me. His work in the Generation of Chaos series is drab and uninspired. This time he’s working on a side-story in the Spectral Force series that takes place 2 years after Spectral Force 2. It’s entitled “Lovely Wickedness.”

Compared to GoC, this soundtrack isn’t too bad. Compared to most other game OSTs, however, it rarely passes above the “average” bar.

The opening theme, “Break Out” is a short but fun and fast-paced opening theme. The next song (consider it the “title track”) is a decent opening theme. The next few songs all sound pretty good as well, but after track 6 “Seeking Victory,” much of the album is plain old filler music.

Yeah, that’s right. The sometimes-droning oftentimes-obnoxious sounds of atmospheric boredom. But now, you get to have it without the game. Yikes. Filler music…I shudder at the sound of the words.

It’s not all terrible. A few songs stick out, and they could pass as “enjoyable” instead of just “bearable” in my book. But overall, the soundtrack is a dud. And, considering the extreme obscurity of this soundtrack, I doubt very many people will care. Besides that, Team Entertainment’s “Spectral Force Soundtrack The Best” covers the better songs anyway. So, you have nothing to worry about.
