Startling Odyssey II Official Game Music Sound

Review by · May 31, 2003

I VERY randomly stumbled onto this soundtrack. While searching on Yahoo Japan for the Langrisser II OST (TYCY-5403), I accidently searched for TYCY-5401 and this appeared. Having recognized the name Startling Odyssey II as one of the more obscure PC-Engine RPGs, I decided I’d get it. So I did, and here’s what I think of it.

Starting with the bad stuff, the original PSG tracks are horrible. They’re grating to the ears. I absolutely cannot stand them. I rarely listen past track 13 or 14. I only sampled one track from here, just to give you an idea as to what sound quality we have going on here.

Working our way backwards, the vocal theme song to the game (Wind From the Future) is a GREAT track. The vocal is performed by Kikuko Inoue, and she has a great voice. The pianos and synths in this song are also great. This track made the purchase worthwhile for me, but there is more…

The first twelve tracks, which are arranged, rock. Great music flows from my CD player, and I feel like dancing. This music makes me want to dance. Yes, DANCE. Don’t ask me why, but it just does. “Endless Battle” is probably the best track in this section, but it’s all good right?

Search by catalog # on Yahoo Japan auctions and you’ll normally find this CD for about 2500 yen ($22). Just make sure you have a good Japanese contact if you want this! I hope you guys like the music samples!
