Summon Night Ex-thèse ~Wings of Dawn~ / “White Night”

Review by · August 12, 2008

“Byakuya” (White Night, or also translated “Midnight Sun”) is the name of the opening track for the PS2 RPG Summon Night Ex-thèse ~Wings of Dawn~, released in August of 2005 by Flight-Plan and Banpresto in Japan. And it is, in my opinion, one of the best singles released for the series. To date, my opinion is that only Summon Night 2’s themes trump it.

The chorus to “White Night” follows one of the most memorable melodies Fujita has ever put together. This song will easily get stuck in your head. It really sets the stage well for the game that is to follow. The ending theme is also decent, if not from the vocalist’s performance, then at least because the instrumental work and production value are through-the-roof for such a (relatively) low-budget developer.

To make the purchase even sweeter, it just so happens that the three disc OST does not have these songs on it. You will only find them on this single. Hence, it is probably the most attractive of any single in the Summon Night set to date. I highly recommend it.
