Tokimeki Memorial Online Ending Theme for boys – A Couple’s Wings

Review by · September 13, 2006

The ending theme “for boys” (i.e. – you’re trying to date girls) for Tokimeki Memorial Online is a great single for anyone who wants to experience a bit of light-hearted, family-friendly Japanese pop culture.

The first song, “A Couple’s Wings” (Futari no Tsubasa) is a mid-tempo ballad featuring vocalist Yuki Makishima. This song is pretty, but I much prefer the second song, “Sharing the Same Feelings” (Onnaji Kimochi), also sung by Ms. Makishima. This song is simply more catchy: the syncopated rhythm on which the chords hit, the interesting chord progressions, and the faster tempo all make this song superior in my mind. I didn’t expect that I would enjoy any Tokimeki vocal song half as much as I enjoyed this one.

Of course, instrumental versions for both songs are included. Also included is a short drama track that, though I only understood parts of it, had me laughing time and time again. When teen drama meets the saccharine-sweet feel of light-hearted Japanese anime, the result is simply splendid, if a bit shallow.

I’m sure that once this single sells out across online shops, it will become a difficult find. Though it is technically only two songs, they are two of the better songs I’ve heard from the plethora of Tokimeki vocals I’ve heard in my life.
