Xak II: Rising of The Redmoon & Fray

Review by · November 8, 2009

Among the three Xak soundtracks, I personally think Xak II is the weakest of the three.

Though there are some decent arranged tracks at the beginning of the disc, I felt that the melodies aren’t interesting, for the most part. Throughout the OST portion of Xak II, there are lots of boring/droning track, even with fast-tempo stuff playing above it. Sasai’s work on the first Xak is far and away better than the second. That’s my opinion, anyway.

The end of the disc includes some tracks from a gaiden game to the series, “Fray” (I think it was an action/platformer?). The Fray tracks were nothing special either. Happier, yes, but still bland.

This CD is long out of print and quite rare, but there is a comparable digital release from EGG Music that one can purchase, digitally for, an extremely reasonable price. Just something to consider!
