Hello, dear readers, and welcome back to Coming This Week! We’re getting into the swing of things again, with more new games coming out on a regular basis. There are actually quite a few interesting picks for RPG fans this week, so let’s jump in. Time to power up!
Final Fantasy XV – January 13th (Stadia)
The most recent mainline Final Fantasy is quietly making its way to a new platform today: the Stadia. This is exciting not only because Ignis helped raise money for Perkins School for the Blind, but because this allows greater access to the game in general. And hey, more opportunities to refresh on the base game as you delve into the expansions and novel can’t be a bad thing, right? You know you miss the fab four.
Atelier Dusk Trilogy (Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk DX, Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky DX, and Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea DX) – January 14th (Windows, PS4, Switch)
Gust has done a great job of keeping the older Atelier titles available with innumerable ports and enhanced editions making the rounds. Now, all three entries in the Dusk trilogy of Atelier games are headed to the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms, replete with their DX edition content.
The Alliance Alive HD Remastered – January 16th (Windows)
The Alliance Alive was an underrated Nintendo 3DS gem from FuRyu, one that got a second lease on life when it came to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 last year. Starting this Thursday, PC players can get in on the action as well. For more information on this HD remaster, check out the lovely Zach Wilkerson’s review.
To The Moon – January 16th (Switch)
Freebird Games’ masterpiece To The Moon is finally making the leap to consoles with a Nintendo Switch port. Due out on the 16th, To the Moon is about a pair of doctors who grant a dying wish to patients at the end of life by delving into their minds, Inception-style. This title is beloved by many RPGFan staffers, offering an emotional tale wrapped up in a snazzy 16-bit package, so definitely give it a look if you’ve missed out!
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot – January 17th (PS4, XB1, Windows)
Rock the dragon, Dragon Ball Z! Okay, now that I’ve got that out of my system, I’ve got pretty high hopes for this one! There have been numerous Dragon Ball games in the past, including a few solid enough RPGs, but nothing quite on the level of what Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot seems to be going for. This gorgeous and action-packed retelling of the DBZ saga could be the game fans have been waiting for. Stay tuned for more info!
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore – January 17th (Switch)
Now this just makes me smile. Tokyo Mirage Sessions was a wonderful RPG on the Wii U: a mix between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei that took what could have been a boring crossover game in an exciting new direction: one mired in the culture of the Japanese pop music industry. It’s a combination that has no business being as good as it is, but somehow Atlus managed to balance out these seemingly disparate ingredients into one wonderful concoction. Now Tokyo Mirage Sessions has another chance to shine on the Nintendo Switch, with even more content to boot. Keep an eye out for a review from us soon!
And that’s a wrap! As always, stay tuned to RPGFan for more RPG coverage, stay classy and beautiful, and we’ll see you next time.
