The Outbound Ghost is an RPG adventure being developed by Conradical Games and published by Digerati, coming to PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Q4 2022. Conrad Grindheim is actually the solo developer behind Conradical, and you’ll realize that’s no mean feat if you watch this wonderfully cute trailer presented during the recent Future Games Show’s Spring Showcase.
If there’s any game that desperately needs plushie merchandise, it’s this one! I think Paper Mario fans will want to pay special attention. The plot overview sounds quite compelling as well; the premise is similar to that of Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, which many (like us) consider to be a winning formula.
[…] The Outbound Ghost combines quests, exploration, turn-based combat, and crafting. A story-driven adventure, players take control of an amnesiac spook with no memory of who they are or how they died.
Arriving in Outbound, a small village with its own mysterious and tragic past, the spectral protagonist finds it haunted by former residents unable to pass over to the other side. The player must help the ghostly inhabitants resolve their unfinished earthly business and find peace, allowing the restless souls to ascend to the afterlife.
Grindheim is not working alone though, as he’s collaborating with composer Kimmo Savilampi and character artist Clayton Chowaniec. He mentions how Digerati has helped cover budget limitations, allowing for the game to have combat and key features to go along with its strong narrative. He asserts that the game will have “multiple ‘paradigm shifts’ […] that [he hopes] will make for unforgettable story beats.” Grindheim just released a devlog (shared below) where he discusses the recent refinements he’s made to The Outbound Ghost‘s combat system, gameplay, UI, and more. It goes really in depth, so give it a watch if that intrigues you.
The Outbound Ghost should hopefully be in our hands by year’s end, be it on console or PC. You can wishlist the game on its Steam page. Visit our game hub for more screenshots, and stay with RPGFan for all the latest updates!
