In this edition of RPGs Coming This Week, everyone’s favorite redheaded buccaneer finds himself in another snafu, but there are plenty more escapades to be had. From generational revenge tales to fantastical Wuxia adventures, the coming days look packed with promise, so let’s check out what’s in store.
SINce Memories: Off the Starry Sky – October 23rd (PS4, Switch, Windows)
I’m told real ones dig Memories Off, a long-running visual novel series from developer Mages about romancing high schoolers — as a high schooler yourself, of course. SINce Memories: Off the Starry Sky is the latest, coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. It’s been out in Japan since 2021, so this is a long time coming for fans.
Set 10 years after the first game, SINce Memories is about a young man grieving for his dead older brother. The protagonist goes on to start converting an old manor into a cafe, and he meets five women along the way. If you’ve played a romance VN before, you know how this goes. Eventually, you choose which of them to pursue, and that’s the route you take to the end. There’s also an overarching mystery about whether it should’ve been the young man who died, but I’d rather not get too far in the weeds.

Card-en-Ciel – October 24th (PS5, XSX, PS4, XB1, Switch, Windows)
Card-en-Ciel is a card-battling RPG developed by Inti Creates. For anyone seeing this for the first time, Mega Man Battle Network fans can certainly see that Card-en-Ciel takes a lot of inspiration from the grid battlefield and the card-action system.
Card-en-Ciel has 300 character cards in all (including cameo appearances from other Inti Creates games), 50 vocal songs, 10 challenging dungeons, and fully voiced characters. Download the demo available on PS5, PS4, XSX, XB1, and PC to see how this game stands on its own.

Flint: Treasure of Oblivion – October 24th (Windows)
If you feel like scarfing down a good tactical CRPG, Flint: Treasure of Oblivion might do the trick. This pirate adventure (there’s been a lot of those lately…) is about a swashbuckler named Captain Flint, and if you’re well-read, you know that’s the very same dead guy frequently alluded to in Treasure Island. Yes, this game is something of a prequel to that classic novel. It follows Flint and the crew in the events leading up to the discovery of his legendary treasure. You gotta appreciate folks keeping the classics alive like this.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven – October 24th (PS5, PS4, Switch, Windows)
In one of the year’s bigger surprises, Square Enix is putting out Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, a ground-up remake of the Super Famicom game Romancing SaGa 2. It’s by the team behind the Trials of Mana remake, which very much exceeded expectations (and not just around these parts). Here’s hoping what that game did for Mana, Revenge of the Seven does for SaGa.
Demo impressions have been quite positive, at least; resident SaGa enthusiast Patrick Gann liked what he played. I’m personally interested in the premise of heroes-turned-baddies. As Patrick pointed out, there’s some unexpected parallels with The Boys, down to the villain group being named “The Seven”.
Patrick also spoke to Producer Shinichi Tatsuke about the motivation behind this remake and more, so please check that out if you want to learn more!

The World of Kungfu: Dragon and Eagle (Exiting Early Access) – October 24th (Switch, Windows)
The World of Kungfu: Dragon and Eagle is a Wuxia fantasy RPG where you travel across ancient China. Over the course of your adventure, you’ll meet several fascinating characters and uncover a gripping storyline. Boasting turn-based combat with a key strategic component in which you grow stronger with every fight you participate in, alongside a choice-heavy narrative that impacts how the story potentially evolves, The World of Kungfu: Dragon and Eagle promises to be an exciting game for those interested in both fantasy and martial arts when it releases later this week!

Ys X: Nordics – October 25th (PS5, PS4, Switch, Windows)
Ys X: Nordics is almost here! Set sail with Adol Christin in a high-seas adventure that hopefully doesn’t involve too many shipwrecks.
… Though we’re talking about Adol here, so you can’t rule naval mishaps out completely!
Everyone’s favorite red-haired swordsman joins forces with pirate princess Karja in a dynamic action RPG as they explore the fantastical and potentially dangerous Obelia Gulf. Ys is a powerhouse series in this particular RPG subgenre, and Ys X: Nordics looks to be of the same high-quality caliber as Falcom’s other recent outings. Our very own Sean Cabot had very positive things to say about Ys X: Nordics, so now I’m eagerly anticipating the naval action headed our way with the game’s imminent release!

Fae Farm – October 22nd (PS5, XSX, PS4, XB1)
Initially launched on Switch and PC via Steam, the farming sim RPG Fae Farm is now expanding to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Farming sim fans can add this to their list of cozy games to play. As mentioned in our Switch review, it boasts vibrant art and design overall, but it can be a little bit buggy.

Wildermyth: Console Edition – October 22nd (PS5, XSX, PS4, XB1, Switch)
The strategy RPG-slash-roguelike Wildermyth is coming this week to PS5, XSX, PS4, XB1, and Switch, and it’s been modified to play better on consoles. Faults aside, we liked this game in 2021, so we certainly recommend it to curious tactics aficionados.

Slay the Princess: The Pristine Cut – October 24th (PS5, XSX, PS4, XB1, Switch, Windows, macOS, Linux)
Oh, Slay the Princess. One of my biggest fumbles writing this column is the fact I missed its initial release (I have the same regrets about 1000xResist). Well, better late than never, I suppose, and that goes for anyone who hasn’t played this horror VN gem. The Pristine Cut delivers new story content, including a new ending and 2,500 new voice lines.

Yakuza Kiwami – October 24th (Switch)
Have you been waiting for years to play Yakuza Kiwami, but have been holding out for a version that will run worse than others and maybe even at a lower resolution? Then you’re in luck, as the remake of Kiryu’s first adventure hits Switch this week, bringing the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series to Nintendo’s console for the first time. Performance jokes aside, though, we love this series at RPGFan, and giving more people access to it is only a good thing.
