“Skies of Arcadia” and “Eternal Arcadia” Trademarked by SEGA

Okay, first of all: temper your expectations. As of January 16th, SEGA filed two trademarks that will make RPG fans salivate: one for “Skies of Arcadia” and another for “Eternal Arcadia,” which happens to be the original Japanese title of the game. Is SEGA setting us up to sail the skies once again with Vyse and Aika?

Now, it could be something, it could be nothing. SEGA could just be updating their trademarks to make sure no one else grabs them. Or we could be seeing a situation similar to Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster when Bandai Namco announced trademarks for those titles. Skies of Arcadia is still popular to this day with characters making cameos in various SEGA titles including Valkyria Chronicles.

Skies of Arcadia originally launched for the SEGA Dreamcast in 2000 to critical and fan acclaim — around here, the lowest-scoring review of ours is still a 91% — with an enhanced version released for GameCube in 2002 called Skies of Arcadia Legends. Combining both versions of the game, RPGFan has a total of eight reviews! You can see why we are excited for a possible return to Arcadia.

While it is unclear if these trademarks mean anything in the long run, stay tuned to RPGFan as we learn more!
