RPGs Coming This Week, May 24–30, 2026 – An Explosion of Color

It’s finally time for Mina! But it’s also a pretty full week in general around RPGs Coming This Week, with a brand new SRPG, a conclusion to a small but long-running series, a promising new creature collector, and more.

The one thing all of this week’s games have in common, though, is that they are all extremely colorful, whether they’re presenting full screen illustrations, pixel art, or a combination of the above, the final week of May is just not a time for drab color palettes. I hope our readers in the US are having a relaxing holiday weekend, and if you have tomorrow off of work, can finish up any recent releases in preparation for this coming week!

Birushana: Winds of Fate – May 26th (Switch)

Birushana: Winds of Fate is a follow-up to the otome visual novel Birushana: Rising Flower of Genpei, which our very own Niki Fakhoori greatly enjoyed! The tale centers around Shanao, a woman raised as a man to keep her bloodline safe during a turbulent time of military strife and political upheaval in Japan. Aided by a group of loyal vassals, she decides to assist her older brother by walking the path of a samurai, but can Shanao survive the battlefield’s devastation while also helping her clan leave a lasting mark on Japanese history?

Birushana: Winds of Fate not only continues the storylines found in the original game through detailed epilogues, but also features four fully-realized and interactive new main story routes. Will the continuations of the first game’s trials and tribulations alongside this hefty new content be enough to entice newcomers and returning players alike when the gorgeously illustrated VN releases later this week on the Nintendo Switch? Being a fan of the original game myself, I’m eager to see if Birushana: Winds of Fate will prove a worthy successor!

LumenTale: Memories of Trey – May 26th (Switch, Windows)

LumenTale: Memories of Trey is an expansive monster-collecting RPG debut from developers Beehive Studios following their successful Kickstarter in 2023. LumenTale integrates some novel ideas from the Pokémon series (like the real-time capturing mechanics from Pokémon Legends: Arceus) as well as some unique features of its own (four on four battles, a robust crafting system). With the backing of publisher Team 17, LumenTale goes a step further than most indie monster-collecting RPGs to offer robust online trading and battling systems. If you miss the vibrant 2D worlds and expressive animated sprites of the DS era of Pokémon, but don’t want to give up the modern conveniences and online features of recent series titles, LumenTale seems to strike a nice balance between the two.

Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered – May 27th (Windows)

Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered is the long-awaited conclusion to the beloved Utawarerumono series that’s been bounced around between various publishers (Atlus, NISA, and now Shiravune) over the years. Set between the first title (Prelude to the Fallen) and the start of the sequel duology (Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth), Past and Present Rediscovered is a direct sequel to 2023’s Monochrome Mobius, resuming the story of protagonists Oshtor and Shunya in the lands of Yamato and Arva Shulan.

Although the previous title was relatively standalone (containing oblique references to events in prior Utawarerumono titles, but not overly reliant on them to understand the plot), this title promises to bring in more direct connections between the events of the narrative with the other titles in the series (hence the readdition of the Utawarerumono title). It’s similar to how the first title in a new Trails arc can work as an entry point, primarily establishing the new characters and setting, but then subsequent titles rely more heavily on prior knowledge of the series. I would strongly advise against jumping in here, but I would encourage those curious about the series to start with Prelude to the Fallen or Monochrome Mobius, particularly if you are a fan of strong worldbuilding and settings influenced by Japanese folklore.

Editor’s Note: While this title is coming to Steam, PS5, and Switch 2 in Japan, global publisher Shiravune only lists Steam (Windows) for its English release as of this writing.

Stardust: Wish of Witch – May 28th (Steam)

Stardust: Wish of Witch is a strategy RPG featuring a turn-based card battle system promising to bring a lot of tactical versatility to the table. Starring tomboy warrior Star and her mage friend Yu, the game explores their adventures in a colorful, pixelated world replete with beautiful 2D animations for ultimate moves alongside an equally memorable cast of characters. I’ve been curious about this game due to its visual presentation and description alone, so I’m eagerly awaiting to discover if Stardust: Wish of Witch‘s fantastical coming-of-age tale will be as enjoyable to play as it looks when it releases later this week!

Mina the Hollower – May 29th (PS5, Switch, Switch 2, XBX, Windows, macOS, Linux)

Hey, Mina the Hollower is finally almost here! While many of us were bummed when Yacht Club Games’ mouse-based action RPG was delayed from its original Halloween 2025 release, more development time can only have helped the title. It took me too many years to finally get into and complete Shovel Knight, but it quickly became a beloved title for me with its perfect blend of retro aesthetics, tight controls, sense of humor, and modern sensibilities. While Shovel Knight was a throwback inspired by classic Mega Man and NES platformers, Mina features a Game Boy Color style, evoking feelings of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening‘s style, but with a setting and gameplay style that feels fresh and unique. Look for Mina the Hollower on all major platforms near the end of the week!

Also Coming This Week

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar – May 28th (PS5, XBX)

2025 was a great year for games, even outside of the biggest award-winning games. One of the best games of last year on my personal list was the latest remake in the Story of Seasons series, Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar. RPGs Coming This Week is usually talking how games may be, or the hopes they’re worth our time, but I can say with confidence that Grand Bazaar is worth the time, and our reviewer Niki Fakhoori felt similarly. This week, the title expands beyond PC and Switch 1/2 and lands on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so if you’ve been wanting to try it on other consoles, this is the time!
