Square Enix has confirmed that the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts IV will have a multi-platform launch upon its eventual release. This will include Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. The confirmation was accompanied by a brief trailer, as part of the latest Nintendo Direct. Check it out below!
KINGDOM HEARTS IV Teaser Trailer : June 2026
As seen above, the action-based gameplay of Kingdom Hearts is alive and well, with series protagonist Sora leaping to and fro across the place to batter Heartless large and small—longtime enemies of the Kingdom Hearts series. As part of a combo string, he will be able to unlock doors in the air, allowing currents of power to surge through, riding them to run enemies down in rapid fashion. Beyond combat, a dark-robed figure (like the ones worn by Organization XIII) briefly posits that the city of Quadratum, the game’s setting, was affected by Sora’s and others’ arrival, bringing chaos to its Tokyo-inspired streets.
Announced in 2022, Kingdom Hearts IV puts players in the role of Sora as he wakes up within the city of Quadratum. Square Enix has confirmed that he will once again travel to different worlds (presumably Disney, as befits the franchise [Editor’s Note: Is it finally time for a Star Wars world?!]). Square Enix has not confirmed a release date, but has promised that further information will be revealed at a later time. With the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, it seems that Kingdom Hearts IV will be a better guidepost for the future direction of the series. If the brief teasers we’ve seen are any indication, it’ll always be interesting to see how Sora navigates himself through worlds unknown once again.
Kingdom Hearts IV will release for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. No release date has been confirmed.
