SEGA and Atlus have revealed a substantial first look at what players can expect from Persona 4 Revival, giving a succinct overview of its updated social and combat mechanics and place in the Persona canon. The information was broadcast via the official Atlus West YouTube channel, totalling nineteen minutes. Check it out below!

As seen above, players will embody an unnamed protagonist recently transferred to the rural Japanese town of Inaba. Over the course of an entire year, the protagonist will engage, socialise, and adventure in both school life and the daily life of Inaba. With his core classmates Yosuke Hanamura, Chie Satonaka, and Yukiko Amagi, the protagonist will also uncover the mystery of the Midnight Channel—an urban legend of a television channel that appears after midnight.
In the pursuit of this mystery, the protagonist and his classmates are sucked into the TV Channel, a sprawling extra-dimensional space where hostile entities known as Shadows roam. Against these Shadows, they will awaken the power of Persona, psychological entities born of their spirit, to fight in turn-based battles.
Persona 4 Revival differentiates itself from its previous releases (Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden) in modernising its original battle mechanics through four key improvements: Guarding, Send Flying, Baton Pass, and Prime Time.
Guarding allows players to defend against pre-battle attacks, where Shadows will be momentarily blocked before recoiling, which will give a window to pre-emptively strike. Send Flying gives players the ability to chain status effects to multiple enemies by knocking an initial enemy into others with a strike any professional ballplayer would envy.
Baton Pass (a feature introduced in Persona 5) gives players flexibility in changing the current playable character, which helps capitalise on keeping combos going until victory. Prime Time is a super-charged combat state that, when active, reduces all skill point costs to zero and gives access to a Prime Time Finish, a supercharged attack that deals massive damage.
Beyond its improvements, the broadcast concluded with a message by director Kazuhisa Wada, celebrating the almost 20-year history of Persona 4 and how it connects with its audiences, bidding that the remake aims to feel “…both nostalgic and new.” He confirmed that all of the music and vocal tracks in the game have been re-arranged into “full-length versions,” alongside new compositions unique to the remake. He concluded by emphasising that Persona 4 Revival is a game that those new to the Persona series could find enjoyment playing, highlighting the interwoven threads of its coming-of-age story, the vibrancy of its characters, and the mystery that weaves between them all.
