Tales of Rebirth is an installment that was never brought over to US shores, for whatever reason. Their opening theme is “Good Night” which is a song by J-Pop band, Every Little Thing (ELT). The single also includes their other song, “Koibumi” (Love Letter), and karaoke versions of both of the songs. They’re solid songs, but I ultimately left the single feeling unimpressed.
After a few listens, I winded up liking “Koibumi,” but parts of the song feel too plain. The song started off a little dull with a simplistic melody. The vocalist has a nice voice, but they seem too ordinary. The song got more interesting at the latter half when the melody got a little more upbeat and dynamic, though the vocals remained the same, simple tone since the beginning.
“Good Night” also started off simplistic, but the execution was better, and the melody picked up a lot sooner. The usage of traditional acoustic and electric guitars complemented each other well. I liked the vocalist’s voice, and she did better on this song, but left me with the same impression; her voice is too ordinary compared to other vocalists I’ve heard.
I liked the single, and it gave me a good impression of ELT’s music, but I don’t consider it a must-have. Get it if you liked the sample or if you are a fan of the band, but neither song was great. It’s doubtful either song will stick with me in the long run.
