Omoide ni Kawaru Kimi Memory Collection Vol.2 – Mihu Kashima is one of a collection of albums from the Memories Off game Omoide ni Kawaru Kimi Memory, which was released for Playstation 2 and Dreamcast back in 2002. It appears that each album focuses on one of the heroines and features that heroine’s musical themes along with some drama tracks. In this case, the character is Mihu Kashima, a wheelchair-bound 16 year-old girl.
The first track, “Believe,” is a catchy bouncy pop tune with breathy high-pitched vocals. There is a karaoke version of “Believe” later on in the CD, which is the song without the vocals. Although it is an enjoyable song, it is nothing particularly remarkable and is quite forgettable. The other two songs are Mihu’s themes; music that plays in the background during scenes with her. One is a downtempo poppy synth piece that is nice but also completely forgettable. There was another longer BGM synth piece that had an urban jazzy vibe to it and is also quite forgettable (notice a theme here?), save for a few moments when cheering sound effects would come in. All in all, the music was just… blah. There was nothing there to leave any sort of lasing impression. It was just empty and hollow.
To be honest, that’s all I really have to say about this CD. Only four out of the six tracks were music; two were lengthy drama tracks that I don’t really care much about. So I really only got four mediocre-at-best songs ranging in length from 1 minute 38 seconds to 4 minutes and 14 seconds. The soundtrack was pretty much over before I even finished this writeup, drama tracks notwithstanding. I do not recommend this CD at all. There just isn’t enough content on it and what was there simply wasn’t very good. Are the other Omoide ni Kawaru Kimi Memory Collection CDs like this? Why couldn’t they all be combined into one soundtrack? This piecemeal division of music with rather paltry portions feels like a cash grab. Even if you are a hardcore Memories Off fan who has to have every piece of Memories Off music out there, I would still save your money and skip this soundtrack. Four music tracks and two drama tracks on one album is not good value to me.
