Like Vol.2, SE Battle Tracks Vol.3 doesn’t deserve a lot of time or attention. The best thing about the album is probably its cover art. PS1 memory card is made of win.
Square Enix put out Vol.1 of this series years ago. I personally thought they wouldn’t keep it going. But they did. We’re still only working the “Square” side of Square Enix.
The real disappointment is the lack of a bonus track. Vol.1 had a great bonus track from Mitsuto Suzuki. Nothing of the sort here. Just a compilation of battle tracks from ’99 to ’00, all PS1 music. Granted, it’s good stuff, but most people with an interest in game music would prefer full OSTs to what is essentially an expensive sampler disc. The only way this is worthwhile is if you’re totally unfamiliar with most of the titles represented. You may discover something that you didn’t know about before, such as the Internal Section (weird shooter) or Racing Lagoon (the “driving” RPG).
