3) Mythic Ocean

Mythic Ocean is a visual novel with a 3D open-world feel, a go-with-the-flow vibe, and some pretty funky characters. Its imaginative setting is an odd “limbo” where the world just ended and it’s now time to figure out how to make a new one. Mythic Ocean is a very interesting game whose blend of both unique and familiar elements handily put it on my Best of 2020 list.

2) BoxxyQuest: The Gathering Storm

To quote classic Boxxy, “I’m not trollin!” BoxxyQuest: The Gathering Storm really is in my Best of 2020 list, because it is a well-crafted RPG that is better than it has any right to be. What could have been a gag game about an infamous internet meme queen from yesteryear turned out to be one of the most involving and surprisingly epic J-style RPG adventures I’ve experienced in a while.

A great hall scene with people in a variety of outfits.

1) Wintermoor Tactics Club

Described as a “cozy SRPG,” Wintermoor Tactics Club definitely made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Wintermoor Tactics Club has fun gameplay, appealing visuals, solid music, engaging characters, a cool story, and that intangible “mojo” or “x factor” that put it over the top for me. I loved everything about this game and hope more people check it out.
