Equaling the game itself in its excellence, Valkyrie Profile OST is easily Motoi Sakuraba’s finest work and one of the most powerful game soundtracks ever composed. It contains two CDs filled with incredible compositions, ranging from beautiful orchestral melodies to accompany the many poignant moments in the game’s storyline, to the upbeat synthetic rock and… Read More »

This little Chrono Cross sample CD was released with Square’s “Summer of Adventure 2000” promotion, which was given to anyone who put a $10 reserve or more on the game to which this sample CD is featured. Many were upset to see that these CDs are only 5 tracks each and hoped for more. If… Read More »
Before going into musical details of Final Fantasy IX, I wish to cover the differences in this OST’s release compared to the other FF OSTs. Now, first of all, this is the first time that DigiCube has released a multi-disc soundtrack with a catalog # of that same multiple type. FFVII‘s OST, for example, was… Read More »

Breath of Fire III‘s music is usually described as “modern/jazzy.” With exception to like three tracks, I really didn’t like this OST all that much. The music is somewhat bland, lacking in intrigue. There is nothing wrong with the jazz genre in my opinion, but some of these tracks were downright boring. However, the ending… Read More »
I, in my entire life, had never played a Dragon Quest game before listening to this soundtrack. Because of this, I had no idea what to expect. Here’s an in-depth re-enactment, through text, of what happened when I listened to the CD. me: Whoa… 2 hours later me: Whoa… It was really, really good. Being… Read More »
Basically, the Falcom Perfect Sound Catalogs do exactly what the RPGFan Soundtracks section does [Editor’s note: used to do!], just specifically with Falcom music. It samples tracks, giving about 1 minute clips of various songs, letting you be the judge of what sounds good and what doesn’t. From there, one may purchase those CDs. Seeing… Read More »

Japanese vocals: They are quite the amazing experience to listen to when you don’t know the language. Combine that with the diverse (and extremely cool hard-rock) sounds of Falcom and you have quite the sound. Falcom has actually made four best-of soundtracks to make profit on that amazing sound. Those soundtracks are the “Falcom Vocal… Read More »
I’d like to share my personal story behind discovering this OST…And my experience with Langrisser in general. Back way before I joined RPGFan, I had a personal site called “The Monkey’s Nest Gaming Section” (which is actually how I got hired here). On that site, I had sections for different series of games. After beating… Read More »
The Legaia OST (for Americans, “The Legend of Legaia”), admittedly, sucks. There really isn’t that much good music on it. The ending was alright, some of the world map stuff was ok…and some of the slow emotional themes were good. But basically, it isn’t special. Did you realize that those statements were utterly blasphemous? That’s… Read More »
Through the use of comparisons, I have discovered that The Legend of Heroes III music must be good. Now, let’s say that Falcom only made two “Very Best of” CDs (which they did). One of them is “Very Best of Ys”, covering Ys I and II, which had all kinds of kickin’ music. The other… Read More »
Pay no attention to the first two tracks, and this is the coolest CD! 😉 As you can tell by my previous statement, I really don’t like the first two tracks. However, the rest of the CD is really well-done as for arrangement. I’m a big fan of Terashima’s work (other Falcom arrangements…Music for the… Read More »
One day while doing some random searches on eBay, I discovered this soundtrack: Legend of the Armored Dragon Villgust ~The Vanished Girl~. Figuring it was rare enough to pay any amount of money for, I bid on it and won it for it’s minimum bid of $27 (obscurity has a high minimum bid my friends).… Read More »
It’s Ys…It’s Ys II…It’s “Renewed”…Ahh! Ys II Renewal! Hmm…Leaves a bitter aftertaste… Basically, Ys II Renewal is a “futuristic” or at least “more modern” version of the OST, still using synth music. It isn’t bad by any means…But I’ve never liked music from Ys II very much anyway, so my opinion is biased. If you… Read More »
It’s Ys…It’s Ys V…It’s Ys V’s OST! Ahhh….If only I had played the game first… The music seems to be really really good to me…However, I have never played the game before so I have no game experience to associate the music with (which I’m told makes you appreciate Ys V music a lot less).… Read More »

Final Fantasy III Original Sound Version is a great OST, it is! This soundtrack is probably the best NES OST you’re ever going to find. Right in the end of its age, the NES struck in Japan with Final Fantasy III, a revolutionary game with jobs and classes…Not to mention great music. The styles of… Read More »
Dear Friends is the arranged version soundtrack to Final Fantasy V. This soundtrack is a little different than most arranged soundtracks for Final Fantasy. Instead of having all the parts arranged with live instruments, this only has a few real instruments playing along with synth. They used high-quality synthesized sounds for the other parts. This… Read More »
Another review I saw somewhere said that to appreciate the Front Mission Series Gun Hazard soundtrack, you must not compare the other work of the artists to this. Personally, I totally disagree. I call this “FFVII done right” for Uematsu and “Every 2300 AD Chrono Trigger track” for Mitsuda. The music on here is downright… Read More »
“The time may put us apart, I know that I will find you with faith, I don’t believe in destiny but I know you were the one when our eyes met…Defied your Fate.” Growlanser is the best overall soundtrack Iwadare has EVER done…It beats Grandia, it beats Lunar, it beats Langrisser. The music in this… Read More »
More properly entitled Sugiyama Koichi Divertimento Hanjuku Eiyuu (Half-Boiled Hero), this soundtrack is one of two full soundtracks that Square never bothered to reprint (the other is the Final Fantasy Mystic Quest OST). This CD features 4 incredibly well-done orchestrated tracks at the beginning, and then the rest is the OST part. So as not… Read More »
Ooooh … Koudelka … It’s relaxing…it’s crazy…It’s BGM at its best. The live tracks are the bomb. I only bought this CD because of the intro movie I had seen a long time before, remembering how much I liked the music. Luckily, the music stays good throughout the whole soundtrack. Of course, since a lot… Read More »
Ah yes, Langrisser V. This soundtrack rules! This is some of Iwadare’s best work, all on one amazing CD. The wailing guitars rule. The modern synth rules…I can’t remember what DOESN’T rule, this is so good. Ooh, the Greek letters rule! The vocal track at the end totally rules. I think that’s everything that rules…Oh,… Read More »
Being a big piano fan, I really enjoy this CD. However, I can say that the arrangements are nothing special and are “what’s expected” from Falcom. It seems to me that the same style is used throughout this piano collection…”modern”. No romantic, baroque, or classical, (maybe some impressionist) but mainly modern. However, the music is… Read More »
It’s Drama…But it’s rare Drama! This CD here is another of many hard-to-find collectible Falcom CDs out there. I picked it up awhile back on an eBay auction (probably the only place you’ll find it now) and to tell you the truth, it isn’t all that bad. Though I had NO idea what they were… Read More »
It’s…uhh…different. “Little…yellow…different” comes to mind. But will it really be as effective as Nuprin? If that didn’t make any sense to you, then I’ve done my job in conveying my feelings about the CD. It was interesting, even entertaining, but when I listen to it I feel like I’m on the outside of an inside… Read More »
